The Unit of Mineral Processing (AMR) was founded in 1998 and is specialized in processing mineral materials. Head of department is Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hermann Wotruba. The department is one of a kind in Germany due to the fact that its research is focused exclusively on mineral resource processing.
The Department of Processing and Recycling (I.A.R.) was founded in 1998. Head of department is Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Pretz. Together with his staff he researches characteristics of processing waste and non-mineral material.
As the central, executive education institute of RWTH Aachen University, RWTH Aachen International Academy is able to call upon the expertise of the university’s research institutes. The institute nominates a scientific director and delivers the course in combination with lectures from science and industry as appropriate. Thus, RWTH International Academy is able to offer participants the opportunity to profit from the university’s expertise in a practical manner.
Founded in 2012, the members of Aachen Know-How Centre Resource Technology, AKR in short, address matters of non-renewable resources, starting with deposit exploration, raw material extraction and processing, metallurgy and materials technology to recycling and the utilization of end-of-life products. Knowledge of raw materials law, raw materials management as well as life cycle assessment round out the examination of processing chains.
