Obituary of Prof. Hermann Wotruba

It is with deep sadness and sympathy that we say farewell to University Professor Dr.-Ing. Hermann Wotruba, born on 11.03.1958 in Bad Mergentheim, died on 19.02.2023 in Aachen.

Since 1998, Hermann Wotruba was responsible for the processing of mineral raw materials as head of the teaching and research area of the same name. He passed on his invaluable expertise to students and cooperation partners with enthusiastic joy and enjoyed a national and international reputation as an excellent scientist.

Early on, Hermann Wotruba also recognised the potential of sensor technology for processing technology issues. Always with a view to practical implementation, he dedicated himself to this field with commitment and conviction for over 25 years. His knowledge, his contacts in science and industry and his extensive publication activities have made Hermann Wotruba a globally recognised expert in this field as well.

In this sense, he played a decisive role in shaping our conferences from the beginning to the end as initiator and chairperson as well as editor. We all remember his speeches at the last SBSC - not knowing at the time that this would also be his last public appearance.

With his death, we lose a highly esteemed and popular thought leader, committed scientist and teacher and promoter of our SBSC. We will cherish his memory and always remember his work with gratitude.

Our deepest sympathy goes to his family.
